Oil and Gas fields are situated in the Salin Sub-basin of the Central Myanmar Basin of Tertiary age, some 480 kms north
of Yangon (Rangoon), in the central steppe area of the Union of Myanmar (Burma). The Central Myanmar basin covers
some 24500 sq kms and contains about 22 oil and gas fields
The area is semi-arid with less than 40 inches of rain a year, although occasional flooding can occur during the monsoon
season. It is well developed as a major petroleum and agricultural region. Access to the area is by road, rail and barge,
and it is serviced by daily commercial flights to the nearby town of Bagan. The fields are situated adjacent to the West
Bank of the navigable Ayeyarwady River, which is used for the transport of heavy supplies from Yangon. Oil and gas
pipelines connect these fields to local refineries and industrial users.
